Q: What is the difference between N-Methylmorpholine (NMM) and 4-Methylmorpholine?

A: They are the same compound. "N-Methylmorpholine" and "4-Methylmorpholine" are synonymous IUPAC names (CAS 109-02-4).


Q: Can NMM replace triethylamine (TEA) directly in my reaction?

A: In most cases yes (1:1 molar ratio). NMM provides similar basicity with significantly lower odor, better solubility in water, and reduced side reactions in peptide coupling.


Q:Does N-Methylmorpholine (NMM) react with CO₂ in air?

A:Yes, it slowly absorbs CO₂ forming a crystalline carbamate salt. Use nitrogen blanketing for long-term storage of opened containers.
