Product Description

3,3'-Dimethyl-4,4'-diaminodicyclohexylmethane (MACM) is a cycloaliphatic diamine with the CAS Number 6864-37-5.   It features two methyl-substituted cyclohexyl rings connected by a methylene bridge, with amino groups at the 4,4′ positions. This structure provides a balanced combination of reactivity and steric hindrance, resulting in cured materials with superior properties compared to many linear aliphatic amines.

It offers low viscosity, good compatibility with epoxy resins, and contributes to high glass transition temperatures (Tg), excellent UV stability, and color retention in final formulations.

MACM serves as an advanced curing agent and chain extender for high-performance epoxy, polyurethane, polyurea, and polyamide systems.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is the CAS number for 3,3'-Dimethyl-4,4'-diaminodicyclohexylmethane (MACM)?

A: The CAS Registry Number for MACM is 6864-37-5.

Q: What are the main uses of MACM?

A: MACM serves primarily as a curing agent for epoxy resins (especially in high-performance coatings and flooring) and as a chain extender in polyurethanes and polyureas. It is also used in the synthesis of transparent, high-performance polyamides.

Q: Is MACM suitable for clear or transparent applications?

A: Yes. Its cycloaliphatic structure provides excellent color stability and high transparency in cured epoxy and polyamide systems, making it ideal for decorative coatings and optical-grade materials.

Q: How does MACM compare to other epoxy curing agents?

A: Compared to aliphatic amines, MACM offers better chemical resistance, higher Tg, and improved UV/color stability while maintaining good reactivity and low viscosity.

Q: What safety precautions are required when handling MACM?

A: Wear full PPE including gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing. Work in ventilated areas and avoid direct skin or eye contact. It is corrosive and may cause sensitization.
