These values describe a representative industrial grade. Batch test results are reported on the certificate of analysis (COA).
n-Butanol is used in solvent blends for industrial paints, varnishes and printing inks. In compatible resin systems, it helps adjust viscosity and evaporation rate, giving the wet film time to flow and level before it dries.
n-Butanol reacts with acetic acid to produce n-butyl acetate, an ester solvent, and with acrylic acid to produce n-butyl acrylate, a monomer for acrylic polymers. It is also a feedstock for selected plasticizers, glycol ethers and modified resins.
In selected solvent-based adhesives and sealants, n-butanol acts as a co-solvent. Formulators use it to adjust application viscosity and drying time. Compatibility and bond performance depend on the resin, substrate and complete solvent blend.
n-Butanol can serve as a reaction medium or extraction solvent in selected manufacturing processes. For applications with tight impurity limits, review the water and acidity specifications when selecting a grade.
n-Butanol can be included in formulated cleaners for removing oily residues from compatible equipment and surfaces. Evaluate the complete cleaner on the intended substrate before use, particularly on plastics and coated parts.
Packaging options include drums, IBCs and ISO tanks, depending on the order and shipment.
n-Butanol is a flammable liquid and can cause serious eye damage. Store it in tightly closed, compatible containers in a cool, well-ventilated area, away from ignition sources and strong oxidizers. Use suitable gloves and eye protection, and follow the safety data sheet (SDS) for handling and transfer.
Yes. These names refer to the straight-chain alcohol identified by CAS 71-36-3.
They are different isomers. n-Butanol has a straight carbon chain, while isobutanol is branched and has CAS 78-83-1.
It has limited water solubility, about 7.7 g per 100 mL at 20 °C. Check the composition of water-containing blends for phase separation.
n-Butanol is an alcohol (CAS 71-36-3). n-Butyl acetate is an ester (CAS 123-86-4) that can be made from n-butanol. They have different solvent properties.
Start with n-butanol content, water, acidity and color. Use the COA to compare results for the batches you are evaluating.
