Refined naphthalene is the name of high purity naphthalene.
Naphthalene is a colorless (or white) shiny flake crystal known as Albocarbon, Naftalen, Camphor tar, Dezodorator, Moth balls and Moth flakes. Naphthalene is insoluble in water, sublimates easily, evaporates with water vapor, and has a special smell. Crude naphthalene has a coal tar odor, refined naphthalene has a mild aroma. Naphthalene is the most important thick cyclic aromatic hydrocarbon in industry and can be used in the production of phthalic anhydride, dye intermediates, rubber additives and pesticides. According to different purity, naphthalene can be divided into industrial naphthalene and refined naphthalene. The purity of industrial naphthalene is low, typically about 96%. After further purification of industrial naphthalene, refined naphthalene with purity above 98.45% can be obtained. Refined naphthalene is insoluble in water, but soluble in some organic solvents, such as anhydrous ethanol, ether, benzene and so on. The melting point of naphthalene is 80.1℃, the boiling point is 217.9℃, stability is stable.

Naphthalene separated from coal tar is called taraphthalene. Naphthalene accounts for about 8-12% in high temperature coal tar, and industrial naphthalene with purity of 96% can be produced. Refined naphthalene can be obtained after purification of industrial naphthalene.
Petroleum naphthalene is derived from heavy aromatic components of catalytic reforming, catalytic cracking and hydrocarbon cracking. The product was purified by solvent absorption and solvent washing, and the purity was up to 99.73%.
• Surfactants - can be used in agriculture, textile or fabric industries.
• Fumigants that can be used in insecticides (e.g. mothballs)
• Special effects and pyrotechnics -- Naphthalene produces large explosions of black smoke and can be used in movies or military training.
• Chemical intermediates
The main use of refined naphthalene is known as camphor. Refined naphthalene is also commonly used in medicine, dye intermediates, leather and wood protectants.
