It is colorless hexagonal, odorless and tasteless crystal with relative density 2.679. It is hygroscopic. It is soluble in ether, insoluble in alcohol. The solubility in acid is greater than in water. It decomposes in alkaline solution and produces sodium fluoride and silicon dioxide.

APPLICATION

Sodium fluorosilicate can be used as an insecticide in agriculture, an emulsifying agent for enamel, an etchant for milky white glass, a preservative for wood, and other fluoride raw materials for manufacturing. It is also used in the smelting of beryllium and aluminum, as well as in the pharmaceutical, leather, rubber industries, and more. It can be used as a coagulant in refractory materials as a water glass chemicalbook binder. Due to the low solubility of sodium fluorosilicate in water, its reaction with water glass is slow and gradual, which is not only beneficial for construction but also results in high density and strength of the hardened material.
