Ammonium Polyphosphate

Ammonium polyphosphate (APP) is a nitrogen-containing phosphate, appearing as a white powder. Based on its degree of polymerization, ammonium polyphosphate can be classified into three types: oligomer, medium-polymer, and high-polymer. The higher the degree of polymerization, the lower the water solubility. Crystalline ammonium polyphosphate is a water-insoluble, long-chain polyphosphate. It has five variants, from type I to type V. Among them, high-polymer, chemically determined crystalline type II ammonium polyphosphate has significant advantages in the field of polymer materials due to its good water insolubility, high decomposition temperature, and good compatibility with polymer materials. Compared with halogenated flame retardants, crystalline type II ammonium polyphosphate is characterized by low toxicity, low smoke, and inorganic properties, making it a novel and highly efficient inorganic flame retardant.
